Rooted in Garlic. Built on Passion.
Peter Lechner is the grower and founder behind Lechner Farms – Artisan Garlic, a small family-run farm based in Kemptville specializing in premium hardneck garlic and handcrafted black garlic products. On his own site he describes the farm's work simply: "Rooted in Garlic. Built on Passion."
"Since 2022, we've been growing garlic and creating unique farm-crafted products designed to bring bold flavour to everyday cooking," the farm writes. "We believe in quality ingredients, simple food, and products made with care. Everything starts with garlic grown on our farm." Peter's own title on the farm's contact card is Commercial Garlic Grower.
Peter cultivates distinctive hardneck varieties, including Music, Russian Red, Georgian Fire, Spanish Red, and Fish Lake 3, using sustainable growing practices and careful small-batch production methods. The 2026 varieties are listed on the farm's About page as Music, Russian Red, Spanish Red, Georgian Fire and Fish Lake 3.
Under the Artisan Garlic brand, Peter and his wife Kimberly transform their farm-grown garlic into a unique line of black garlic, seasonings, sauces, infused products, and culinary creations designed to bring bold, rich flavour to home cooks and food enthusiasts alike. On Instagram the brand is described as "a handcrafted line of premium black garlic and garlic-based seasonings created by Lechner Farms in Kemptville, Ontario." The farm's own summary of the craft: "Our black garlic is slowly aged to perfection, unlocking a rich, savoury, slightly sweet flavour like no other."
With a focus on craftsmanship, education, and community connection, Peter is passionate about helping customers discover the unique flavour and versatility of hardneck and black garlic while sharing the story behind every product grown and produced at Lechner Farms. You will find the farm, in its own words, "At farmers' markets across Eastern Ontario sharing our love of garlic, great food, and local community."
