About
Roman Tykajlo plays the tsymbaly, the Ukrainian hammered dulcimer — a trapezoid box of metal strings struck with two small hammers. His music is the traditional melodies of the Ukrainian village, played on a folk instrument.
He has played for Ukrainian church communities in Ottawa. In June 2018 he performed as the Tsymbaly Duo with Ron Demeda at the concert for the centennial of the Eastern Eparchy of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Canada, and that September he played the tsymbaly at the festive lunch marking 100 years of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Ottawa.
Roman came to Canada from England in 1957. At UAFest 2026 he plays the Main Stage at 14:35 with a medley of village melodies and «Аркан».

Roman plays the Main Stage on Sunday, 13 September 2026, at 14:35, in Riverside Park, Carleton Place. Right after his set the stage turns to the Arkan dance. The running order is provisional and can shift by a few minutes on the day.

Ukrainian tsymbaly in Canada
Roman came to Canada from England in 1957. The performances of his we could find were for Ukrainian church communities in Ottawa, where he played the tsymbaly at centennial celebrations in 2018.
On 13 September 2026 he brings the instrument to UAFest in Riverside Park, Carleton Place — about an hour west of Ottawa. Entry is free, and the day runs with Ukrainian music, dance, food and craft.
