About

Cathy Schmidt sews under the name That’s Sew Cathy, in Carleton Place, Ontario. Her logo — an antique sewing machine ringed with roses — carries the line “Handmade with love”.

Her Facebook page lists the business as an arts and crafts store on Carleton St, Carleton Place, ON K7C, always open, with in-store pickup, the phone number (613) 889-5652 and the address thatssewcathy@outlook.com.

That’s Sew Cathy opened on Facebook on 17 February 2022 with a single line: “Welcome to That’s Sew Cathy!!! Specializing in masks, but available for your sewing needs!” On 26 February 2022 she announced that face masks and scrunchies could be found at Murray’s Flea Market, 525 High Street in Carleton Place, open Friday, Saturday and Sunday 10–4. On 13 April 2022 she added a second spot: “Come see me at The Queens, seven days a week, 10am-5pm.” By 28 June 2022 she was posting “fresh new SCRUNCHIES at the QUEENS MARKETPLACE in Carleton Place.”

Ukraine came into the work within weeks of the page opening. On 12 March 2022 she posted “Ribbons for Ukraine” and wrote that “All proceeds will go to the CANADIAN RED CROSS.” On 31 March 2022 she spent the day with three volunteers who, in her words, “assembled hundreds and hundreds of ribbons to raise money” — her Instagram names the cause as Ukraine Support Lanark County, her Facebook post as Ukrainian Diaspora Support Canada — and she thanked the pastor who lent them the church hall.

Her year now turns around the Carleton Place Farmers Market: “I’ll be at the Carleton Place Farmers Market every Saturday morning 8.30-12.30pm. Come by and say hello.” The 2026 season opened on 9 May at the Market Square, corner of Lake Ave and Beckwith St. In August 2026 she took the stall to Puppets Up! in Almonte on the 8th and 9th (“Having too much fun at Puppets Up in Almonte!”) and to Pickle Fest at the Carleton Place Farmers Market on the 22nd. In autumn and winter she has posted from craft shows at the Carleton Place Arena, the Christmas in the Valley Artisan Show at the Almonte Arena, the Army Navy Air Force club on Townline Road, and Sacred Heart High School in Stittsville. Her market table carries wicker baskets of packaged novelty pillowcases and scrunchies, under a framed sign reading “Novelty Pillowcases Standard Size”.
