Wedel — Touch of Europe · European deli, bakery and catering in Ottawa
A touch of Europe, from two Ottawa counters to the festival field.
Wedel — Touch of Europe is a European grocery, deli, bakery and bistro with two shops in Ottawa: 5 ByWard Market Square in the ByWard Market, and 300 Richmond Road in Westboro. Behind each counter is the same kitchen — hot food cooked daily, smoked hams, kiełbasa and cold cuts, artisan cheeses, a bakery case, homemade gelato and a barista bar — and behind that, shelves of European sweets, chocolates and imported goods from Germany, Hungary, Ukraine and beyond.
They put it this way themselves: "At Wedel – Touch of Europe, we believe food should tell a story — one filled with heritage, craftsmanship, and genuine flavor." The kitchen started with a simple goal — "to share the authentic Polish and European food that reminds us of home — hearty meals, comforting soups, and sweet indulgences that connect generations".
The owner, Justyna (Tina) Borowska, told Ottawa Life Magazine her own story: she grew up in Poland, lived in England for several years, then moved to Canada, and opened the Westboro shop just before the Covid lockdown. The newly renovated deli was vandalized the day after it opened; she kept going, and Westboro became a working bistro. Many of the recipes came from her Polish Babcia, her chef trained in Europe, and the Łowicki floral pattern on the curtains and tablecloths is the same one that shows under the pierogi in every photograph here.
Of the deli side they write: "A Community Deli with European Soul. More than just a deli, we're a place where community and culture come together… We're proud to serve Ottawa's diverse and growing community — from long-time residents to newcomers looking for a taste of home."
On Sunday 13 September 2026 that kitchen comes to UAFest in Riverside Park, Carleton Place, as a premium vendor on a 10 × 20 stand: sausage, cabbage rolls, pierogies, syrniczki and borscht — the list they put on their own festival application.
“A taste of Europe with a heart full of Poland.”
Wedel brings the kitchen to Riverside Park in Carleton Place on Sunday, 13 September 2026. They hold a 10 × 20 stand in the food row — twice the standard vendor front, and the reason the festival lists them as a premium vendor. The stall runs with the festival, from 12 noon to 6 p.m., and entry to the festival is free.
On the application they listed sausage, cabbage rolls, pierogies, syrniczki and borscht — the hot food they cook every day in Ottawa. The exact spot in the park is set on the morning of the festival: look for the Wedel banner along the food row, or ask any volunteer in a festival vest.

Everything below comes from Wedel's own pages, with the prices exactly as they publish them on wedelottawa.com. In the Ottawa Life interview the owner named the three dishes people come back for: pierogi, cabbage rolls and schnitzel. Her chef trained in Europe, and the cheese-and-potato pierogi are made in the shop every week.
Filled with a seasoned pork and beef mix. Other meat fillings on request.
Cheddar, potato and caramelized onion; cottage cheese, potato and caramelized onion; or sauerkraut with mushroom and caramelized onion.
Tender cabbage leaves stuffed with pork and rice, simmered in tomato sauce. Minimum order of ten rolls at $54.99 plus tax.
A crispy breaded cutlet, fried to golden. One of the three dishes the owner names as her most popular.
The traditional hearty stew of sauerkraut, fresh cabbage and assorted meats.
Grilled and served with sautéed onions, in two varieties: spicy or garlic.
European cold cuts, smoked and regular Swiss cheese, fresh vegetables, seasonal fruit, pickles, marinated mushrooms, crackers and artisan bread. Six people minimum, and they cater groups of a hundred and more.
There is always homemade soup to take home — she served the writer a bean-and-vegetable and a sauerkraut soup — and a case of pastries, cheesecakes and homemade gelato to go with a coffee from the bar.
Their seasonal list runs beside the everyday one: żurek at $16.99 a litre, cabbage rolls at $5.49, pierogies at $1.99 each, cheesecake at $3.69 per 100 g, babka at $10.99 and mazurek at $13.99.
Visit →Both shops are grocery, deli, bakery and bistro under one sign: hot food cooked daily, a counter of smoked hams, kiełbasa and cold cuts, artisan cheeses, a bakery case, homemade gelato, a barista bar, and shelves of European sweets and imported goods. The Westboro room is licensed, so a Polish beer or a glass of wiśniówka can come with the plate. The Łowicki floral pattern on the curtains and tablecloths — the same pattern you see under the pierogi in the photos — is on the dishes and textiles they sell.

Both sit on the same counter. Wedel describes its recipes as rooted in Polish and Central European tradition, and it carries imported goods from Germany, Hungary, Ukraine and beyond. The festival registered them as a Ukrainian food vendor, and the list they gave — cabbage rolls, pierogies, syrniczki, borscht — reads on either side of that border.
