Canada's Ukrainian festival season runs from June to the end of September and crosses the whole country: Calgary opens it in early June, the Prairie festivals in Vegreville and Dauphin hold the middle of summer, Edmonton and Winnipeg fill August, and September belongs to Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Halifax. This calendar lists each one by month with its 2026 dates and the 2027 dates that the festivals have already published.

Ukrainian festivals in Canada at a glance

The table runs in calendar order. A festival without a published 2027 date shows its usual month: the big festivals keep their place in the season from year to year, so the month is a safe plan and the exact days follow in spring.

The Prairies: where Ukrainian Canada began

The first Ukrainian settlers came to Canada in 1891 and took up homesteads on the Prairies, and the oldest festivals still sit in that country. Canada's National Ukrainian Festival in Dauphin, Manitoba, is a three-day festival of dance, music, food and family activities on the Selo Ukraina site outside town, held over the August long weekend; in 2026 it ran on 31 July – 2 August, and the 2027 dates are already set for 30 July to 1 August.

Vegreville, Alberta, the town known for its giant pysanka sculpture, holds its Pysanka Festival in the first weekend of July, with camping on the festival grounds; the 54th festival is set for 2–4 July 2027. In Calgary the Ukrainian festival is a two-day weekend in early June at the Acadia Recreation Complex, and in Edmonton the Ukrainian community runs its own pavilion at the Heritage Festival in Hawrelak Park over the August long weekend.

Winnipeg's Folklorama, the two-week multicultural festival in August, has a Kyiv Pavilion with a dance stage, embroidered costumes and Ukrainian food. East of Edmonton, the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village is an open-air museum of pioneer homesteads, churches and a prairie town; it holds Ukrainian Day in mid-August and reopens to visitors in May 2027.

Ontario and Quebec: Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal in late summer

In the east the season is shorter and denser. The Capital Ukrainian Festival in Ottawa runs at Lansdowne Park in the last weekend of August, close to Ukraine's Independence Day on 24 August. Two weeks later, UAFest - Ukrainian Festival near Ottawa fills Riverside Park in Carleton Place, about 45 minutes west of downtown Ottawa, with a stage, a kitchen, a market, a kids' zone, the Rushnyk procession and the Unity Ride from Ottawa. The full list for the Ottawa region, with the Toronto weekend, is in our guide to Ukrainian festivals in Ottawa and Ontario.

The Bloor West Village Toronto Ukrainian Festival closes Bloor Street West for three days in mid-September and calls itself North America's largest Ukrainian street festival; 2027 is set for 17–19 September. Montreal's Ukrainian festival, organised by the Saint-Volodymyr cultural association, takes over Parc Maisonneuve in September, and the East Coast Ukrainian Festival in Halifax ends the season in the last week of September.

Between festivals: winter and spring in the Ukrainian calendar

The festival season ends in September, and the community calendar keeps going. Christmas Eve, the Holy Supper of twelve dishes, falls on 24 December in most Ukrainian churches since 2023, with many Canadian parishes still keeping 6 January; our guide to Ukrainian Christmas dates explains both. Malanka, the Ukrainian New Year's Eve on 13 January, is the big winter dance in Ukrainian halls across Canada. Spring brings Easter, the pysanka workshops and the paska baking that go with it.

For vendors, performers and dance groups: planning a season

A vendor or an ensemble that wants a full summer can work the calendar from west to east: the Alberta festivals in June and July, the Manitoba festivals in late July and August, then the Ottawa–Toronto–Montreal run in September. Calls for vendors open months ahead and usually close early, so the waiting lists are the step to take in winter.

Running a Ukrainian festival or a community event of your own?

Most of the festivals in this calendar are run by volunteers. The team behind UAFest opened the system it uses for its own festival to other festivals and communities: a website on its own address, forms for vendors, performers and volunteers, and one inbox for the team. It is free to start, in English and Ukrainian, at uafest.com.

UAFest 2027 - Ukrainian Festival near Ottawa is in September 2027. The waiting list hears the days first.
