German bakery near Ottawa — pretzels and Berliners in Carleton Place

The Little German Bakery, 14 Bridge Street, baking from scratch every morning.

The Little German Bakery began with Doris Whelan baking the hearty loaves she grew up with and could not find here, sold at farmers’ markets from 2016. In June 2023 she and her partner Rob Seto opened a full bakery at 14 Bridge Street in downtown Carleton Place, about 45 minutes from Ottawa: “honest baking, made from scratch, fresh every single morning.”

The case holds soft pretzels with a deep mahogany crust and coarse salt, cinnamon, cheese and pizza pretzels and the pretzel dog; raspberry and custard Berliners, Bee Sting Cake, apple strudel and danishes; potato, buttermilk and marble rye breads, sourdough and Brötchen. A grocery corner stocks German and European goods.
